The painted mosque was built in 1495. This monument presents an artistic realization, with specific outside decoration, and especially in the inside. For centuries, this building preserves its religious function, as well as the education and cultural function. The building is distinguished for its great artistic values.

In its composition scheme it consists of a prayer room, hayat, minarets, mausoleums, drinking fountains; all of these surrounded by a large wall covered with tiles. The main entrance of the mosque is in the western side, but there are also two other entrances, one in the southwestern side, and the other in the northern side.

Today’s architectonic form and decoration were created in the first part of the 19^th century (1833/34) by Abdurahman Pasha. The painted mosque in the inside has a square form; the prayer room has a unique volume and is covered with domes, which is lightened with 30 windows, 15 down and 15 up. What makes it more attractive is the decoration of the walls. The decorations of the interior and the exterior walls reflect geometrical motives interwoven with floral motives giving an outstanding value. The exterior: like the Sofa and the columns; the interior: balconies, mihrabs, domes, are all painted in the Secco technique.

The turbe, as a part of this structure, presents a characteristic example of the monument upon the tomb of the Ottoman period, built in the XVI century. It is of the type of open turbas.
